Equipment Donation for Ghana
We are dedicated to sustainable development. This is why part of your fee goes towards buying decent sports equipment for beneficiary organisations in Ghana. You will often use this sports equipment during your sports project and it is always left with the community when you leave. In some cases, an equipment donation may not be appropriate so a financial contribution is made instead.
Sports Camps
Although most of your time will be spent on your sports project, you may be able to take part in sports camps organised in the rural village areas. This gives children the opportunity to get involved with sports activities through organised tournaments, decent sports equipment and coaching advice from you. The sports camps attract a great deal of enthusiasm from aspiring athletes, which could also provide the chance to find the continent's next big star!
Other Volunteer Projects
In addition to your sports coaching role, you will have the opportunity get involved with some non-sports community projects such as building projects, care work and teaching placements in schools. These projects give you another eye-opening experience in Ghana while also allowing you to make a difference outside the world of sport. With a Western education, you will be able to contribute significantly to the standard of tuition that the students receive. Subject areas include English, maths, science, IT and a whole variety of extra-curricular activities. Our in-country team will inform you of the extra opportunities available during you time in Ghana.
Social Life in Ghana
Our social life is unrivalled because we believe it is important to give our volunteers the chance to unwind and have fun while they are away. Our in-country team therefore organises a variety of activities to bring volunteers together, to share their experiences and, above all, have a good time. Some of these activities include visits to authentic Ghanaian restaurants, group meals, beach barbeques and plenty of sports where you can even take on local competition.
Playing Sport in Ghana
If you fancy a game of footy while you are away, or simply enjoy the social side of football, you should join our volunteer football team, Akwantufo FC, which means ‘visitors’ in the local tribal language of Fanti! This gives you the chance to play alongside our other volunteers and also challenge some serious African opposition. And while the team does have a competitive edge, the emphasis is on the social side of football which makes for a fantastic cultural exchange with the local Ghanaians.
Accommodation
The accommodation is located near to the beach front and although it is relatively basic, our volunteer lodge is a very comfortable place to relax and unwind with the other volunteers. You will stay in a dormitory style room and enjoy the sociable atmosphere this creates. The accommodation is also centrally located to the volunteer community projects. Shops and other useful amenities are either a short walk or taxi ride away.
